Mombasa: Police arrest 5 suspected members of outlawed Wakali Kwanza group

Detectives in Likoni, Mombasa County have arrested five machete-wielding gang members suspected to be members of the outlawed group, Wakali Kwanza.

The suspects are accused of robbing, and terrorising members of the public in areas of Likoni and Kisauni.

According to a police report, the suspects namely Rajab Ali Rajab alias Shaka Zulu, Mohamed Juma Katana alias Ndefu, Titus Mumo Mutua alias Tito and Rashid Abubakar Mwinyi, were arrested by a team of undercover police officers who were on patrol within the Shelly Beach area while preparing to commit a felony.

"Following the intensified crackdown on machete-wielding gangs in the area, police officers drawn from Shelly Beach Police Station have today at night managed to arrest the above suspects who at the time of the arrest were found in a manner suggesting that they were preparing to commit a felony," a police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

During the arrest, police recovered, three Somali swords, a panga, and one iron bar.
