Police in Bondo have launched a manhunt for a gang that attacked a bodaboda rider before killing a pillion passenger he was carrying.

According to a police report, the rider identified as Michael Okoth Owinji, and his rider Christine Akoth were attacked on the road near Barmofu Primary School in Bondo, Siaya County by unknown men who were armed with crude weapons.

The gang robbed him of his motorcycle and injured him in his legs and arms.

His passenger Christine, 45, was killed and her body dumped in a thicket a few metres from the school.

"Michael Owinji was attacked on 4/7/2022 while Carrying Christine Akoth on his motorcycle by unknown men armed with crude weapons who robbed him of his motorcycle registration number KMEG 184Q.

"They killed the passenger before dumping the body in a thicket," the police report read in part.

Bodaboda rider treated

Owinji is being treated at Bondo Sub-County Hospital and he is in stable condition.

The deceased body was moved to Bondo Sub-County hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Elsewhere in Matayos, Busia County, police are investigating the death of two-night guards who were murdered in cold blood during a robbery incident.

The two guards identified as James Wawire and Vincent Ouma were found dead and in a pool of blood after they were attacked by unknown assailants.

The attackers later broke into two shops in the center and stole 33 jerricans of cooking oil and an unknown number of mobile phones and airtime.

"It was established that the two were attacked by unknown assailants who broke into two shops and stole 33 jerricans of cooking oil, an unknown number of mobile phones, and airtime," a police report read in part.

The two bodies were moved to Busia County Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
