National Assembly Committee chairpersons, vice-chairpersons: Here is the new composition following elections

MPs on Thursday held elections to fill departmental committee chairperson and vice-chair person seats that fell vacant following changes instituted in the compositions of the committees by political parties, particularly the ruling outfit, Jubilee.

Tiaty lawmaker William Kamket will chair the Delegated Legislation committee, deputised by Mbeere North MP Charles Muriuki Njagagua.

Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi will take over the chairmanship of the Constituencies Development Funds committee. Mandera East MP Omar Mohammed Hassan has been retained as the vice-chairperson.

Garsen legislator Ali Wario has been elected the Regional Integration committee chairperson. Lamu Woman Representative Ruweida Mohammed will serve as Wario’s deputy.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega will take over the chairmanship of the powerful Budget and Appropriations committee, with Eldama Ravine lawmaker Moses Lessonet serving as his assistant.

Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba has been elected the vice-chairperson of the Transport, Public Works and Housing committee, which is chaired by Pokot South MP David Pkosing.

Mandera South lawmaker Adan Haji Ali has been elected the chairperson of the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives committee, with his Kigumo counterpart, Ruth Mwaniki, elected as the vice-chairperson.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau will lead the Sports, Culture and Tourism committee as its chairperson. Narok South MP Korei Ole Lemein has been retained as the vice-chairperson.

Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani has been elected as the vice-chairperson of the Lands Committee, which is led by Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai as the chairperson.

Limuru MP Peter Mwathi will take over as the Labour and Social Welfare committee chairperson, whereas Chepalungu lawmaker Gideo Kimutai will assume the committee’s vice-chairperson seat.

Mathioya MP Clement Kigano is the new chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs committee, deputised by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.

Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kutuny will now serve as the vice-chairperson of the Health committee, which is chaired by Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has been elected the new chairperson of the Finance and National Planning committee. She is deputised by Roysambu MP Waihenya Ndirangu, who retains the seat.

Another committee which saw a complete overhaul of its top leadership is the Education and Research Committee, which will now be chaired by Busia Woman Rep Florence Mutua, with Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri as her assistant.

Baringo Woman Representative Gladwell Cheruiyot was elected the new vice chairperson of the Energy Committee, which is still being led by Nakuru East MP David Gikaria as its chairperson.

Another committee whose top leadership was changed is the Agriculture and Livestock docket, which is now led by Moiben MP Silas Tiren as its chairperson and Laikipia Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru as Tiren’s deputy.

Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi is the new vice-chairperson of the Administration and National Security committee, which is still being led by Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange.

Embu Woman Representative Jane Wanjuki Njiru becomes the new vice-chairperson of the Communication, Information and Innovation committee, which has retained Marakwet West MP William Kipkemoi Kisang as its chairperson.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma becomes the new vice-chairperson of the Constitutional Implementation Oversight committee, which is chaired by Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni.

Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library committee now has a new leadership made up of Shinyalu lawmaker Justus Kizito as the chairperson and Nyamira Waoman Rep Jerusha Momanyi as the vice-chairperson.

Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi now becomes the new vice-chairperson of the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity committee, which has retained nominated MP Maina Kamanda as its chairperson.

Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Ombaki retains his position as the chairperson of the Members’ Services and Facilities committee, which will now have Kesses legislator Swarup Mishra as its vice-chairperson.

Mwea MP Kabinga Wachira now becomes the new vice-chairperson of the Committee of Parliamentary Powers and Privileges, which is chaired by the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Six National Assembly committees did not overhaul their top leadership. These include: the Select Committee on Implementation, Special Funds Account Committee, Defence and Foreign Relations, Environment and Natural Resources, Public Accounts Committee and Public Investments Committee.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi remains as the chairperson of the Public Accounts committee, deputised by Kibwezi East lawmaker Jessica Mbalu.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir continues to chair the Public Investments committee, with Wajir North legislator Ahmed Ibrahim serving as his assistant.

South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi remains the Special Funds Account committee chairperson, assisted by Ainabkoi lawmaker William Chepkut.

Narok North MP Richard Ole Kenta will continue serving as the Select Committee on Implementation chairperson, deputised by nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi.

Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki retains his position as the chairperson of the Environment and Natural Resources committee, deputised by Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor.

Kajiado South MP remains as the chairperson of the Defence and Foreign Relations committee, assisted by Nyaribari Chache legislator Richard Tongi.
