The Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital has admitted responsibility for the death of 58-year-old Halima Hassan stating that there was laxity and rudeness in the laboratory which led to her death.

Speaking in the facility, Health CEC Rose Maitai regretted the unfortunate incident saying that they had interdicted culprits who are senior staff in the laboratory.

“It has taken us more than three days to investigate this matter with 15 persons interviewed and two of our health workers in the department have been found capable and interdicted even as we wait for further forensic investigation,” Maitai said.

The two staff interdicted are a Senior Medical Laboratory Phydelis Wachie Nabwoba and a Laboratory Technologist III Clement Wambugu Kimani.

The CEC said that they had written and invited the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to investigate any criminal liability on the two.

She noted that they had embarked on an overhaul of the department in order to enhance service delivery.

She urged residents of Laikipia to remain calm as they work on the issues.

Others who have been found guilty of unbecoming behavior in their practice include Peter Fredrick Mwenda, a community Oral Health Officer (absenteeism), Radiographer Michael Makau (Soliciting money from patients) and Otho trauma Technician III Mwangi Muturi (conducting unauthorized clinical diagnosis and soliciting money from patients).
