Nakuru Main Prison voters are calling on the new president that will be elected to consider pardoning them through the presidential power of mercy.

Speaking after voting on Tuesday, the prisoners said the presidential pardon is sometimes ignored by those supposed to act on it, calling on the new president to streamline the process.

"We are serving long-term sentences here and believe that the person who will win the presidency will remember us.

"In the past, the president's mercy was ignored and we expect that many will be pardoned in the coming years," one of the prisoners told K24 Digital.

An observer from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, David Mwaura, said the voting exercise in the centre was peaceful and calm.

"We have witnessed very peaceful and well-conducted elections by IEBC but I would like to emphasise on agents' training. Many agents are ignorant of what is required of them," Mwaura said.
