A mother who allegedly abandoned her children for a week in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums has returned to her children.

Lucy Adaki was forced to return home after the plight of her children was aired on national television.

She explained that she was forced to leave her children in search of a job because of the tough economic times.

"I did not have an option. There is no way I would have watched them die of hunger and I'm just sitting there. The only option I had was to go out and hustle and bring them whatever I get," Adaki said.

She further appealed to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to help her secure a job so that she can be able to provide for her children.

Prior to her return, neighbours who noticed the children's cries following her absence stepped in to help the minors with food.

"I have been seeing these kids near the door, and when I look at their situation, it's like the young ones are hungry. Maybe I buy them bananas to eat," one neighbour stated.

"I thought when they are just lingering around the door, maybe their mum has gone to work or has delayed to return and maybe will arrive late to cook," the neighbour added.
