A 34-year-old man accused of killing his elder brother’s child has been arrested in Ntungamo District, Uganda.
According to a Ugandan news outlet -Daily Monitor, the suspect who resides in Kanyanzira Village in Nyanga Parish, Rubaare sub-County chopped the nine-year-old's body to pieces before placing his remains in a pan.
Police say the man later handed the remains to his wife to cook however, she realised that the meat was a human body's remains and raised an alarm.
Locals who responded to her distressful call identified the body as that of the minor and handed the suspect to authorities.
“The suspect was left home with the minor after his wife and child left for church. When the wife returned from church, her husband told her that he had bought some meat and it was in a pan in the kitchen. He instructed her to cook it immediately because he was hungry,” Rubaare Sub-county councillor John Kabeho told Daily Monitor.
Adding; “When the wife entered the kitchen, she found chopped pieces of human meat in the pan.”
Notably, Kabeho said the suspect has had battles with his mental health since 2020 and had been seeking medication.
“He was taken to hospital three years ago when he developed mental challenges, but he became well later and returned home. However, he kept showing signs of mental challenges and he would be taken to churches for prayers. Family members say he had recovered when it happened,” Kabeho noted.
