The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced traffic disruption on the Madogo-Garissa Road that was cut off due to a washout at Kona Punda near Maroro.

In a statement, KeNHA revealed the affected stretch is situated between the Tana River Bridge and Madogo town urging motorists and pedestrians to seek alternative routes.

"KeNHA notifies the public that Madogo-Garissa Road has been cut off. The affected section is between Tana River Bridge and Madogo town. This follows a major washout at Kona Punda near Mororo. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid this section of the Road," KeNHA stated.

The road agency noted that the authority's on-the-ground team is actively monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates on the progress of the restoration efforts.

KeNHA stated that as soon as water levels recede, they will initiate the necessary restoration work to expedite the reopening of the critical transportation route.

"The KeNHA team is on the ground closely monitoring the situation and will update on progress. As soon as the water levels subside, the KeNHA team will begin requisite restoration work," KeNHA reassured.

Mtwapa-Kilifi road restored

Earlier, the agency restored the previously declared impassable Mtawapa-Kilifi road after the Mbogolo bridge was washed away by floods.

In a statement on Sunday, November 26, KeNHA declared the road open to traffic.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority informs the public that Mtwapa - Kilifi (A7) Road is now open to traffic. This follows the completion of restoration works at the Mbogolo Bridge that was washed away by floods," KeNHA said.
