A military officer has been arrested over attempted murder following a confrontation with a boda boda rider in Syokimau in Machakos County on Thursday, July 15, 2022.

The officer, a military doctor working with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), is said to have shot at Wycliffe Atendo in rage after the rider dropped his daughter at home on Thursday evening.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operator had received a request from a client to drop her at the White house estate, in Syokimau.

Atendo picked up the client, a 21-year-old lady, outside a pharmacy along Kimathi street and set off for the 20-kilometre journey.

After arrival at the destination, a man quickly emerged from the gate and started beating him.

"The duo arrived at the agreed address and as the woman was about to pay him, a man quickly emerged from the gate and gave her a beating like a rented mule, before showing her into the compound," DCI said.

Shortly after, the officer withdrew his pistol and shot at the victim. He, however, managed to escape unhurt.

"As the nduthi man pondered his next move, the enraged man whipped out a firearm and fired at him instead, making him flee the scene for dear life," DCI added.

The rider proceeded to Syokimau police station where he lodged a complaint.

"They (officers) established that the man was a military doctor who was armed with a Glock pistol and 42 rounds of 9mm calibre," DCI revealed.

The suspect has since been handed to the military police for further action.
