Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has called for police investigation after two of its students allegedly committed suicide.

“We confirm that Lenny Jessy Masiga and Irene Monica Mwangi were JKUAT students pursuing Strategic Management in the school of entrepreneurship and BSc Business Computing respectively and their records are in order,” JKUAT Corporate Communication Officer (CCO) Joan Mutua said in a press statement on Friday, July 1.

According to the police report, their bodies were found in their respective hostels outside JKUAT in Maya Apartments and Kwa Njoro 2 in Juja respectively.

Mwangi is said to have hanged himself while Masiga's body was found in her bathroom door frame at the apartment.

Students reportedly had missing marks

The two are reported to have been missing on the graduation list due to missing marks.

Graduation at the institution happened on June 28, 2022.

The university, however, denied reports that Lucy Wambui, another student who died in Kiambu, was their student.

"JKUAT is committed to the wellbeing of its students," Mutua added.
