Residents of Amuka village in Kwanza constituency, Trans Nzoia County are reeling in shock following an incident where an 80-year-old grandma was raped and murdered in her house on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the media, Kaberi Ng’ang’a, the son of Anne Wanjiku, the slain woman, said the people who committed the heinous act have not been found.

He also said the motive of the culprits, who also made away with four bags of maize, has not been established.

“We are still in shock. We do not know what our grandma did to the culprits.

"We are condemning this weird act in the strongest terms possible. Where do you get the courage to violate an elderly woman?” Ng’ang’a posed.

David Too, a neighbor, said there was no commotion in the late night incident and called for speedy investigations so that the suspects are arrested and arraigned in court.

“This is bizarre. We have never witnessed such an act before in this area.

"We are appealing to law enforcement agencies to carry out thorough investigations and take action against all the suspects,” Too said.

“Our officers from the crime scene department have visited the scene for processing.

"We are asking the locals to volunteer any information that can lead to nabbing of all the people behind this murder incident,” Odera confirmed.

Local leaders, led by Trans Nzoia County Woman Representative Janet Nangabo and Kwanza ward Member of County Assembly Sarah Lubano condemned the incident and called for routine security patrols to deter occurrence of similar incidents.

“We are worried with this murder incident. We don’t want a repeat of the same.

"We are asking law enforcement officers to heighten night security patrols in this area,” Lubano said.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Kitale County Referral Hospital morgue.
