Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura says his appointment to the position was a favour of God.

Speaking to a local TV station, Mwaura said it was not God's will to serve in any other capacity, having been previously nominated as an MP and a Senator.

"Every time you do something, you ask God, let His will be done. Clearly, it was not in His plan for me to serve in any other capacity other than this one," Mwaura said.

Mwaura was among the 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) appointed by President Ruto in March.

He was, however, yet to assume office after the appointments were suspended by the High Court. The orders were issued following a petition lodged by the Law Society of Kenya.

Announcing the appointment on Wednesday, October 4, State House Chief of Staff Felix Koskei said he will be deputised by Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Gabriel Muthuma.

Mwaura thanks President

He thanked President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua for the appointment to the position.

"I am extremely grateful to President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for finding it fit that I can be the one who represents the government officially," he said.

He however dismissed reports that he was appointed to the position as a favour by the President, saying he was appointed due to his competence.

"I don’t regard this as a favour from my political position. Why Isaac Mwaura and not anybody else? I think there is some competence, I have all the competence. I am ready and willing to help the government communicate more effectively," he added.

He says as the new Government Spokesperson, he will oversee communication from all ministries and state departments on key policy issues.

The position, according to Mwaura, will be domiciled under the Cabinet Affairs and the Head of Public Service.

"I am the spokesperson of the government, the government is ministries, departments and agencies. The role of my office is to make the intentions of the government well-known and explain government decisions and actions," he added.
