Impeached governors Sonko, Waititu excite netizens when they appear in court together

Former governors Ferdinand Waititu and Mike Sonko stunned netizens when they appear together at Milimani law courts for the hearing of corruption related cases against them.

The two, who were impeached last year, are facing graft charges totalling to Ksh800 million.

Twitter user @Ninja_ya_manu captioned the photo: "Sonko: Haiya kumbe you still visit here; Waititu: Many times u get me here."

@osorojnr_ said: "Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and ex-Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu meet at Milimani Law Courts, where they are both facing respective charges."

Waititu, his wife, former County Chief9 Officer for Roads Luka Mwangi, six county employees, businessman Charles Chege and his wife Beth Wangeci are facing charges of money laundering in relation to irregular award of Sh588 million contracts for road repairs.

Waititu and his wife were accused of receiving a total of Sh51 million through their companies, Saika Two Estate Developers Ltd and Benvenue Delta Hotel.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the plot to defraud the county government of Kiambu was hatched by Chege and his wife through their company Testimony Enterprises.

While Sonko is being charged with misusing Ksh357 million meant for the development of Nairobi City County.

Waititu has since been replaced by James Nyoro while Sonko was formally replaced on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 by Anne Mwendwa Kananu.
