The main suspect in the murder of Kilifi County Chief Officer for Blue Economy Rahab Karisa was arraigned before the Kilifi law courts on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Diana Wanyonyi alias Sarah Nekesa Barasa was ferried to Kilifi by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives following her arrest in Busia on Tuesday as she attempted to cross over to Uganda.

Appearing before Kilifi Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku, police sought to have the suspect detained for 14 more days to allow them complete investigations.

DCI in a sworn affidavit informed the magistrate that Wanyonyi was the main suspect in the murder of Karisa who was found stabbed to death in her bedroom.

Police further told the court that the suspect was yet to record statements with them.

"Detectives are yet to grill the suspect following her arrival in the area where the crime is alleged to have occurred. We are also yet to record statements from key witnesses and complete the investigations," the officer told the court.

The magistrate allowed the application to have the suspect detained by police to allow the investigations to be completed.

The matter will be mentioned on August 17.

Karisa was found murdered at her Kilifi home a day after she returned to the country from a work trip in Italy.

Her body was moved from the Pandya memorial hospital and taken to Mtopanga in Mombasa County. It will be ferried to Vihiga for the burial on Saturday.
