Detectives have arrested a househelp who is suspected to have stabbed to death Kilifi Chief Officer for Mining and Blue Economy Rahab Karisa.

The suspect, known as Diana Wanyonyi, was arrested at the Busia border as she attempted to cross over to Uganda.

An investigating officer aware of the arrest, who spoke to K24 Digital on condition of anonymity, stated that Wanyonyi was arrested at Tuesday 3 am after a bodaboda rider whom she had hired to sneak her through the porous border alerted police officers manning the border.

"The rider upon alerting the officers notified their counterparts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who took her in custody at Busia police station for profiling," the officer said.

The officer added that the fugitive was escorted to Kilifi where she will be required to record her statements before being arraigned in court to face murder charges.

Last week, Kilifi County police Commander Fatuma Hadi confirmed that the deceased was stabbed to death by her house help at her apartment in Mnarani at around 5 am under mysterious circumstances.

Police had launched a manhunt for the suspect moments after she fled from the scene of the crime.

The chief officer had reportedly returned to the country from a county workshop in Italy.

The deceased will be buried at her husband's ancestral home in Vihiga County this Saturday.
