Residents of Ruga village in Homa Bay Sub-county are reeling in shock and anguish after a 24-year-old man reportedly hacked his grandmother to death.

Priscila Olumbe,70, is said to have met her death at the hands of her grandson who used an axe and panga before he killed five goats, three cows and injured her donkey.

Villagers say the incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday, December 7, when Olumbe was sleeping inside her house.

It’s reported that the 24-year-old attacked his grandmother with a panga and proceeded to hack her with an axe after she had collapsed, killing her on the spot.

Villagers who arrived at the scene say the deceased had multiple injuries on her body.

The family of the deceased said Olumbe had raised the 24-year-old man from birth adding that his motive is yet to be established.

Olumbe’s brother-in-law identified as Sila Ngare however claims the man might have gone nuts since he is epileptic.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay Police Commander Esther Seroney said the suspect is in police custody while the body of his grandmother is lying at the County’s Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
