Gor Mahia FC's head coach, Johnathan McKinstry, has raised concerns regarding the recent decision by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to prohibit clubs from independently recording their matches.

In an announcement made to club chairmen on Friday, the FKF informed Premier League clubs that they are no longer permitted to record or broadcast their own matches.

Instead, all game recordings will be handled by the new broadcaster, Azam, and teams will be required to obtain footage from the federation.

McKinstry, who possesses extensive coaching experience, expressed his surprise at such a directive, stating that he has never encountered such a restriction in any league he has been a part of.

"As we approach the kickoff of the new FKF Premier League season, Football Kenya has imposed a ban on all teams from recording their own matches for internal video analysis. I have never witnessed or been involved in a competition where such a decision has been implemented," he said in a statement.

The coach went on to question the rationale behind this decision and highlighted that major competitions worldwide allow for internal video analysis.

"Why has this decision been made to hinder teams' development? If prominent competitions across the globe permit internal video capture for analysis purposes, why is it considered unfeasible for the FKF Premier League?"

McKinstry also raised the issue of match analysis being included in CAF licenses for coaches, pointing out the inconsistency in teaching these techniques when teams are not allowed to access the necessary materials to perform such analyses.

"No decision is cast in stone. As such I hope that Football Kenya can revisit their decision and agree reasonable criteria for teams to capture their own tactical video for internal use as well as protocols to prevent the external broadcast of the same if this is a concern," he concluded.

Gor Mahia will commence their campaign on Saturday at the Moi International Stadium - Kasarani.
