A 13-year-old girl was defiled and murdered at Ebenezer village in Moi’s Bridge location in Likuyani, Kakamega County.

Caroline Naliaka, the mother of the deceased and a vegetable vendor at Moi’s Bridge market, said she had sent her daughter Lucy Wanjiru to sell the vegetables when she met her death.

Naliaka said when not in school, her daughter who is a Standard Six pupil at Moi’s Bridge Township Primary School, usually helped her sell vegetables.

“My daughter left home early Sunday morning to sell vegetables and returned at about 10 am after selling all the stock,” she said.

She said that the girl then picked another load of vegetables and left but she never returned until 5 pm when the mother received news of her murder.

“Our chief came with police officers to my home and told me they had found a body resembling my daughter’s dumped on the road and upon getting to the scene I confirmed it was her body but had injuries on the private parts,” she narrated.

The officer in charge of Soy police station, Patel Nasio, appealed for calm as investigations continue.

The body was then taken to Kitale hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Residents said that this was the third such incident in the area in six months.
