Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally moved into his official residence in Karen which has been under renovation after last year's general election.

The DP said he met Central Kenya Regional Commissioner, Regional Police Commander, County Commissioners, County Police Commanders, and other security agencies at the Karen office over the ongoing crackdown on illicit brew in the region.

"The illicit alcohol and drug abuse menace in Central Kenya and the entire nation must come to an end if we have to save the next generation.

"Earlier today, at Karen Residence Office, with Principal Secretary Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo, I held a consultation with the Central Kenya Regional Commissioner, Regional Police Commander, County Commissioners, County Police Commanders, and other security agencies to track the status, the progress made and identify any key challenges so far in ending illicit brew and substance abuse," he said.

He added: "The progress made is commendable; we are not relenting on this. Every effort will go a long way in restoring the dignity of the youth and making them more useful in rebuilding our Nation."

Gachagua on Friday, March 17 said he was yet to move into his official residence in Karen because it needed a lot of renovations.

Speaking during a joint media interview with Gikuyu stations, Gachagua said the residence' rooftop was leaking and toilets were not working.

"The official residence of the Deputy President was in a bad shape when I became Deputy President. The rooftop was leaking, toilets not working, the borehole pump was broken down, and the house was totally in a bad shape," he stated.

The DP said the office had been denied funds by President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime.
