A police officer based in Langata has been arraigned at Kibera law courts for causing grievous harm to his pregnant wife.

According to the charge sheet read out in court, “Ernest Muriungi was accused of committing the offence on October 21 at Lang’ata women prison in Lang’ata sub-county within Nairobi County.”

Muriungi however denied the accusations pleading with Magistrate Willian Tulei to grant him lenient terms

According to court documents, the accused whose wife is also a police officer, arrived home while heavily drunk.

Muriungi then picked up an argument with his wife which spiralled into a fight.

An alarm was raised and neighbours rushed to the scene, rescuing the victim who was rushed to the hospital.

Upon medical examinations, it was discovered that Muriungi's wife lost her three-month-old pregnancy.

Doctors noted that the victim had been grievously injured.

The matter was reported at Langata police station and the accused person was arrested and taken in for questioning before he was arraigned in court.

The court ruled that the accused person shall be supplied with all the documents needed during trial.

Magistrate Tulel released the accused on Ksh20,000 cash bail and directed the matter to be mentioned on November 12.
