Detectives on Saturday stormed into the home of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and declared it a crime scene following the gruesome murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.

Speaking to the press, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Eastern Region coordinator Lenny Kisaka said the governor’s residence is among the many other crime scenes detectives are investigating following the brutal murder of the blogger.

“A team of homicide and forensic science are inside here because this is mapped as one of the major scenes we are visiting and investigating, we will collect everything necessary to ensure that Sniper gets justice,” Kisaka added.

This comes a day after the governor's son Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and her brother Murangiri Kenneth were arrested alongside three others over their involvement in the blogger's death. The five were booked across various police stations within Nairobi and Kiambu.

Yesterday, the DCI officer in charge of investigations regarding the blogger's death told the Kiambu Magistrates Court that Mwangaza's son and brother lured the deceased to his death.

He specifically told the court that the two contacted the blogger, a staunch critic of Mwangaza,  informing him that he would be meeting the governor to make amends and work together.

The slain blogger agreed to meet them and travelled from his home within Igembe South Sub-County to Meru town. He went missing afterwards.

"Hyrene Kawira Kamenchu, the deceased's wife tried to contact him in vain prompting her to report the matter at Maua Police Station," the officer added.

Further, the officer requested the court to allow detectives to detain the suspects for 21 days to pave way for investigations.

"The respondents (accused) have to undergo formal police procedures which include but are not limited to recording statements, interrogation, and subjecting them to mental assessment among other actions," the DCI added.

On Friday evening, Governor Mwangaza denied allegations that Sniper visited her residence and urged the investigating team to ensure justice is served to the blogger's family.

"I have seen a lot in my political career so I have decided to keep quiet and watch the detectives do their work but I have never seen Sniper in my residence," the governor added.
