Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have gunned down two robbers in Cheramei area in Jua Kali area, Uasin Gishu county.

The detectives say the robbers who have been terrorizing residents in Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties were gunned down in a joint operation conducted by detectives from Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties.

At the time, detectives recovered a Pistol believed to be the one that was stolen from the Kitale residence of former Forestry Minister Noah Wekesa in December 2023.

The two robbery suspects gunned down were on Chukura and Moi's Bridge police stations' wanted list after a series of robberies with violence cases.

The duo which defied police orders to surrender was gunned down after a fight ensued between them and the officers at an apartment within Cheramei Centre in Uasin Gishu County.

The two are said to have shot at the officers through the window of the apartment.

One of the suspects has been identified as John Mukhwana Muhila whereas the identity of the other suspect is yet to be known.

Detectives recovered a pistol (Smith and Wesson S/no.VJH4836), two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, a motorcycle, a mobile phone and other implements and electronics.

Trans Nzoia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Francis Kihara said 13 rounds of ammunition were expended during the operation.

"We believe the pistol is the one that was stolen from Noah Wekesa's home last year while the phone recovered is what was stolen from Moi's bridge last night" Kihara said.

The bodies of the slain robbery suspects have been taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue.
