Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria was among the notable leaders who attended the memorial service of Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga held at the Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu.

The CS, a fierce critic of Raila Odinga, received a warm welcome from the guests as he exchanged greetings with Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga, Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong'o and other leaders.

Recently, the CS who is President William Ruto's diehard support, acknowledged Jaramogi's impact on his life during his days as a student at the University of Nairobi.

The CS who was speaking during the launch of Siaya County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) in Siaya in September 2023, also took a trip down memory lane of his journey with Oginga's son Oburu and Governor James Orengo.

"As I stand here as CS, I remember the journey of myself, my brother Governor James Orengo and Senator Oburu Odinga have come from. On January 20, 1994, we were here a whole 29 years to bury Jaramogi Oginga Odinga," Kuria stated.

"A man who instructed Otieno Kajwang to represent me in court and get an injunction that stopped me from being expelled from UoN," he added.

Jaramogi's memorial

Raila Odinga and his family led a section of renowned scholars, pan-Africanists, and leaders at the 30th anniversary of Jaramogi who died on January 20, 1994.

Contrary to the usual norm, Jaramogi's 30th-anniversary fete was held in Kisumu and not at his rural home in Bondo.

The event began with a service at St Stephen's ACK Milimani Church in Kisumu before the procession headed to Ofafa Memorial Hall along Kakamega Highway.

Jaramogi, Kenya's founding Vice President was a prominent political figure in Kenyan politics.

He was also among the leaders and heroes who negotiated for Kenya's independence with former colonial masters Britain at the Lancaster House.

He was also the founding member of the independence ruling party Kenya Africa National Union (KANU).
