The Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, who doubles up as the chairman of the Assumption of Office of the President Committee, has announced in a presser that the transition committee's functions have now been triggered by the announcement and declaration of Deputy President William Ruto as the president-elect.

"The declaration of the presidential election results sets in motion other constitutional processes for the transition going forward," Kinyua said.

During a past media briefing, Kinyua, who chairs the ad-hoc committee, enumerated the roles of the body and stated that it will be issuing periodical updates.

"The functions of the transition committee are to facilitate the handing over the process by the outgoing president to the president-elect and to organize the security of the president-elect. It also coordinates the briefing of the president-elect by relevant public offices and facilitates communication between the outgoing president and the president-elect. It is also tasked with the responsibility of preparing the handing-over programme which includes the swearing-in ceremony," he said.
