The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested one suspect linked to the selling of contraband milk powder in Mombasa after raiding his wholesale shop.

According to the investigative body, the proprietor identified as Ahmed Salah Mohamed was arrested on Friday, January 26, 2024, following a joint operation by DCI's Operation Support Unit alongside officers from the Kenya Dairy Board and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Upon the raid at the shop dubbed AMS Wholesalers Limited located within Lebanon area Biashara Street, authorities recovered goods with an estimated value of Ksh1,650,000.

"Officers recovered 41 bags of HILWA Full Cream Milk Powder each 25 kg product of New Zealand and 25 bags of BROOKSIDE Full Cream Milk Powder each 25kg.

"KRA officials estimated a taxable value of Ksh1,650,000 on the products, which have since been taken as exhibits at the KRA Changamwe warehouse," DCI noted.

Detectives said that ongoing investigations aim to trace the source connected to a prior operation in Nairobi.

"Upon interrogations, the suspect claimed to have acquired the consignment from an accomplice in the name of Dahir, whose warehouse is located in Shimanzi, Mombasa. The said Dahir had been arrested during an earlier operation in Nairobi, and investigations are ongoing to trace his Mombasa warehouse for inspection of the stored products," DCI stated.
