Former Nairobi mayor, Charles Rubia, is dead.
Rubia’s son, Mike Rubia, told K24 Digital that the multi-party democracy fighter died in his sleep at his Karen home on Sunday night.
“He drove himself home, and proceeded to his bedroom for the night,” said Mike.

Rubia, the first Nairobi mayor of African descent -- who served between 1963 and 1969 --, leaves behind four sons. Two of his children are already deceased.
His wife died 20 years ago.
In the lead-up to multi-party democracy, Rubia was detained alongside the late multi-party system rooter, Kenneth Matiba.
