Four members of one family, who were returning home from a wedding ceremony, died last weekend when the vehicle they were travelling in was smashed by a lorry at Masimba market in Emali on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

The relatives, comprising two women, a boy aged 16 and an 18-month-old baby, hail from Kinyawa Ward in Kajiado East, Kajiado County.

The four were returning home in a Toyota Probox after attending a wedding in Masimba when the crash occurred.

According to Mary Ndinda, the mother of the woman who was on the wheel, the driver of the lorry rammed into the vehicle carrying her relations.

Ndinda says the lorry driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle on a bridge, when he lost control and smashed into the vehicle carrying her kinspeople.

“The truck driver sped off after the accident,” said Ndinda.

Area chief Elijah Parikei confirmed the incident.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to a Kajiado morgue.

The family spokesperson, William Karanja, has urged well-wishers to help them foot the funeral expenses.
