Soy ward administrator, David Kiptanui Barno, will be detained at the Eldoret West Police Station as police investigate allegations by his wife that he [Barno] has threatened to kill her.

Barno’s wife, Judith Jepkorir Kuto, had moved to court seeking protection from her estranged husband, whom, she said, threatened -- on three separate occasions -- that he would kill her should she remain steadfast in her quest to have the sole custody of their two male children aged 4 and 9.

Barno and Kuto went separate ways in 2017 after a turbulent 10-year marriage.

Barno was reportedly arrested and released in 2017 after his wife reported that he had threatened her.

Kuto told Eldoret senior principal magistrate Richard Odenyo on Wednesday, August 14, that every time she would meet her estranged husband on the streets, he would tell her: “I will kill you”.

Kuto said Barno issued the threats to her on three separate occasions.

Barno will remain detained for another two days, pending a Friday, August 16, ruling on whether he will be freed on bond.
