Thirty-six-year-old Terance Korir, a Buruburu Phase 5 resident, had just hopped onto his car and ignited the engine, when the vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, exploded into flames, police now say.

Korir, a dweller of Mai Mahiu Court on Katulo Road, was preparing to leave for work at 8:30am Wednesday, April 29, when the incident happened, Buruburu OCPD, Adamson Bungei, says.

“When he (Korir) ignited the vehicle’s engine, the car burst into flames at the bonnet section. The cause of the fire is yet to be known. It is strange how the vehicle’s interior was the only part that was destroyed by the explosion,” Bungei told K24 Digital.

The vehicle had been parked at the Mai Mahiu Court yard near House Number 465, police said.

The occupant was burnt beyond recognition, a report filed at the Buruburu Police Station by the Chairman of Mai Mahiu Court on Katulo Road, Cyrus Chege, said.

“We have since towed the damaged car to Buruburu Police Station,” said Bungei.

The body of the victim was moved to a Nairobi morgue.

The victim leaves behind a 29-year-old widow and two children.
