Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has responded to reports that his political rival Raila Odinga will vie for the presidency in 2022.

Even though the Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila dismissed the reports published by the Sunday Nation, DP Ruto said that he ready to battle it out with the opposition chief in 2022.

But Dr Ruto, in a cheeky retort, said Raila should be ready to concede if he loses in the polls again.

"I have no problem competing with him but I want him to assure Kenyans that if he loses, he will not contest the elections results," said Mr Ruto.

The video of Mr Ruto's response was posted on Facebook by State House digital strategist Dennis Itumbi. Mr Itumbi works in the DP's office.

On Sunday, the Sunday Nation, claimed that Raila had declared interest in vying for the presidency for the fifth time.

But Raila's spokesman Dennis Onyango released a statement on Sunday, terming the reports false.

In the statement, Raila said it is too early to declare interest in the presidency.

Instead, Raila said he is working to strengthen his ODM party by embarking on a countrywide recruitment driven and vetting of current members.

Mr Ruto, on the other hand, has already declared he is interested in succeeding hiss boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, in State House when his term ends in 2022.
