Beth Mugo’s husband dies at 85

Ambassador Nicholas Mugo, husband to nominated Senator Beth Mugo is dead.

K24 Digital has established that Amb. Mugo died on Thursday, February 3 in the morning hours.

According to Senator Mugo, her husband of over 60 years passed on following a long illness while he was admitted at the Nairobi Hospital.

“It is with profound sadness and sorrow, I wish to announce the death of my husband, Amb. Nicholas Mugo, that happened early this morning at the Nairobi Hospital after a long illness,” she said in a statement.

According to his profile, the deceased was among the first Kenyans who benefited from an academic scholarship program that was started by the late Tom Mboya and the late Dr Julius Kiano.

Dr Kiano and Mboya worked alongside the late United States President John F. Kennedy in the 1950s.

The family, in the statement, revealed that the deceased was recruited to join the East African Community while he was still in the US.

“He was among the first Kenyan Africans who came back to the country to take up the responsibilities of serving the nation,” the statement further read.

He was a diplomat who served as Kenya’s Ambassador in various countries among them; Ethiopia, Yugoslavia, the Vatican and France.

He was also an active Christian as he was a church Elder at the Pentecostal Church of East Africa (PCEA).

The family further said that he will be cremated on Friday, February 4.
