A Nairobi-based family is searching for their kin who disappeared from a hospital bench at the Mbagathi Hospital on September 20.

Saumu Amina Wanjiku is said to have disappeared moments after her mother Maimuna Kinyanjui left her seated on the bench as she left to purchase drugs at the facility’s chemist.

Efforts to trace Saumu's last moments did not bear fruit as she was last captured by CCTV cameras making rounds within the hospital’s compound.

“When I came back and did not find her, I began looking for Saumu everywhere but I did not find her,” her mother said.

According to Kinyanjui, she alerted the hospital's administration office which in return referred her to the security office.

“The cameras showed her making rounds around the hospital but never captured her leaving the gate. So we are wondering where did she disappear to,” Kinyanjui said.

She then phoned Amina’s husband inquiring whether her daughter had gone back to her home but Amina's husband said she was not home.

Amina's husband, Salim Ramadhan said they decided to check in every ward at Mbagathi hospital but they did not find her.

They then engaged Kenyatta National Hospital to allow them to look for her in the wards and the facility’s morgue.

Unfortunately, they neither found her in both hospitals or the morgues which raised their anxiety as they remain worried about her whereabouts.

“We also went to City Mortuary and we were shown all the bodies from Mbagathi Hospital but we did not find my wife,” her husband said.

However, early this week, the family received strange calls from two individuals allegedly from Migori Level Four Hospital who introduced themselves as police officers and a medic.

Speaking to the media, Khadija Njoki who is the sister to Amina said she was the one who received the first call.

“They told us that my sister was in Migori and needed food, credit and doctors had recommended that the family buys a pipe that will assist in feeding her,” she said.

The family said that in a span of one day the family had sent a total of Sh12,000 to the duo who have since gone silent.

However, an officer attached to the Kenyatta National Hospital police post informed the family that the duo were behaving like conmen and advice them to stop sending the duo money.

Detectives attached to Kilimani police station are investigating the incident and the family said that they had hope that they would get their ailing sister.
