Five passengers travelling in a Toyota Fielder lost their lives in a tragic accident along the Londiani- Muhoroni road in Kericho County.

The five were from a burial in Kisumu on Friday, October 1, when they got involved in an accident with a truck at Jambo Kenya Junction which is a known black spot.

According to witnesses, the car was being driven at high speed before it lost control, veered off its lane and hit an oncoming truck.

“The accident was caused by the slippery road because of the heavy rainfall in the area,” Abraham Kimutai, a local told K24 Digital.

Lameck Gichana, another witness who saw what happened said the saloon car was being driven at a very high speed and the driver must have faced difficulties in controlling the vehicle.

“The driver was really rushing and we suspect that is what led to the accident after the car began sliding off the tarmac, he lost control,” said Gichana said.

The accident is said to have been caused by the slippery road due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The truck driver was taken to Kipkelion Hospital in critical condition after he sustained serious injuries.

The lifeless bodies of the five were also taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.

In July, five people also perished after attending a burial that took place in Naivasha in Nakuru County.

The mourners had just attended a funeral in Naivasha and the accident involved the personal car they were travelling in and an oncoming canter.

Four of the passengers died on the spot while the driver died while undergoing treatment at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
