At least six people have died by suicide, three others attempted suicide while 10 others were murdered in just the last five days - a report by police indicates.

Most cases (suicide 6, murders 3) were reported on Saturday, July 2 2022.

In one of the Saturday incidences, police officers in Dandora are investigating a case where a man hung himself after accusing his mother of meddling with his marital affairs.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Michael Sambu alias Kababa went home while drunk and started accusing his mother of being the reason behind the entanglement with his wife.

"The deceased came home drunk and accused his mother of meddling with his marital affairs which led to his entanglement with his wife," the police report read in part.

The body of the deceased was discovered by the mother hanging on the rooftop of his house.

Kisumu police recovered body

Elsewhere in Ahero, Kisumu county, 51-year-old Philip Omondi was found hanging on the rooftop of his house days after he was reported missing.

The deceased went missing on June 29, 2022. His decomposing body was days later discovered by neighbours who were attracted by a pungent smell emanating from his house.

According to his brother, Omondi had been living alone for the past five years after he separated from his wife.

"It was established that the neighbours broke his house due tomorrow and odour smell that was coming from therein and found him dead," the police report read in part.

In Matungulu, police are investigating an incident where a form two student of Matheini Mixed Secondary school was found unconscious after taking unknown poison.

The victim identified as Ann Wambui was saved after she was rushed to Boni Care clinic where she is in stable condition.

Reports show suicide cases are normally caused by people being depressed. The rise in the cost of living is also being considered as one of the causes recently.
