Two robbers will serve life imprisonment for violently accosting a pedestrian along Rosewood Avenue in Kilimani, Nairobi county.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul handed down the capital sentence to the two robbers Humphrey Minyata Muhambe and Timothy Jahani Muzami after finding them guilty of violently robbing Paul Sewe Omanyi of his computers, phones and other accessories all valued at Ksh396,733 on June 25 last year.

The two robbers are said to have violently robbed the victim using a pistol and a knife.

While sentencing the two, the magistrate said that the two robbers were positively identified by the prosecution witnesses who testified in court.

"Since the prosecution proved the offence facing the two beyond reasonable doubt and having considered that such crimes are rampant nowadays, this court passes the mandatory sentence to act as an example to other young men intending to commit a similar offence," Zainab ruled.

She further noted that the prosecution proved their case by presenting a CCTV footage showing the 24-year-old Minyata and 28-year-old Jahani approaching the complainant at around 6:00 am on the material day and while armed with the dangerous weapons confronted him before beating him up and robbing him of all his items.

Among the electronic devices stolen from Omanyi include a Macbook, an iPhone, a magic keyboard, a mouse, eyeglasses and their accessories, among other items.

They were in a bag that Omanyi was seen surrendering to the thugs in a video which was also recorded by eye-witnesses near the scene of crime.
