Diamond Platnumz caused a stir when it was announced that he had bought a private island. However, it's now emerging that the singer may not be the real owner.

The Bongo singer reportedly bought the island in the Zanzibar archipelago for a whopping Tsh1.8 billion or Ksh92 million.

Tanzanian media report that the 'Mtasubiri' hitmaker is building a high-end hotel in Zanzibar as he seeks to tap into the flourishing tourism business in the famous holiday paradise.

The wealthy singer on Tuesday evening May 31, 2022, took to social media and posted several clips that showed his project in Zanzibar.

Diamond may not be the island's owner

Controversial Tanzanian media personality Mwijaku has poured cold water on reports that Diamond bought an island in the Zanzibar archipelago.

While commenting on an Instagram post by Wasafi FM presenter Baba Levo, Mwijaku stressed that Diamond doesn't own the island but he was only the face of the project.

The Tanzanian media personality claimed that the island is owned by a Kenyan investor who picked Diamond to be the project's manager.

"Kawadanganyeni wasio jua ukweli #Mwambino hana uwezo huo autoe wapi. Au nimtaje mmliki? Kumbe siku hizo ukiambiwa na Wakenya usimamie kitu basi ni chako (Lie to those who don't know the truth. Diamond doesn't have the money to buy an island. Should I name the owner? So nowadays when Kenyans pick you to be a project manager then you become an owner?)" Mwijaku commented.
