Renowned filmmaker Abel Mutua alias ‘Mkurugenzi’ has responded to fault finders ‘mounting pressure’ on him for his different trajectory for baby No. 2.
Abel says in 2022, people move past the traditional setup of a big family being the ‘ideal family’.
“If I decide I only want to get one child, it is a personal choice, I don’t see how it affects you….if it would be affecting you we would try and get another…but why are you sleepless? I know why I have decided one is enough, I have my reasons, if you want to get 15 children, go ahead,” Abel Mutua said in a recent interview.

While giving his reasons, Mutua noted that he is currently not only able to fully cater to another child but his 12-year-old daughter.
“For me, I feel the kind of life I want to give my child, it can only be possible if I have one.”
The storyteller further noted that the trauma of becoming a young parent still lingers.
“That fear is still inside me. Even when I hear someone is pregnant, I feel scared. Just because of the trauma I had 12 years ago,” he said.
Abel Mutua however noted while their only daughter made them parents, and a family his choice can only be changed by his wife Judy Nyawira.
At the same time, he recalled how Judy learnt about her pregnancy at 22 years old while still being a college student.
“She cried the whole day. I told her there are no two ways about it, if a baby is on the way, it is up to us to adjust to the situation. I told her I am ready to handle whatever comes with the baby.”

Abel Mutua's tips on parenthood
He advised parents on a few tips of parenthood saying one should cultivate a friendship with their kids.
“We have some respect because she knows she cannot lie to me. We have a working formula. Being a child’s friend, create a friendly environment with a child,” Abel said.
He says following his nature of work (content creation) he tries to create room for her while still being extra careful since she is still a minor.
“We are monitoring everything, her tablet has YouTube kids and when she downloads anything we get email notifications.”
