Questions as cop’s missing rifle is recovered, 1 year later

Officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Thika are investigating an incident where a firearm robbed from a police constable during a bank raid in Matuu in July 2021, was recovered at a farm in Thika.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the AK 47 rifle that belonged to Constable Patrick Omusebe, was recovered by a resident identified as John Macharia while he was clearing the bush on his farm.

"A resident of BTL area discovered an AK 47 rifle serial number KE KP 55266385 and a magazine loaded with 21 rounds of 7.62 mm," the report reads.

On July 27, 2021, a gang of five armed men stormed an equity bank in Matuu town and robbed two officers of their firearms before stealing an unknown amount of cash from the teller.

They also parted away with Ksh270,000 belonging to customers.
