Former Gatundu North Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Kigo Njenga is now the new chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA).

Kigo was appointed to the position through a Gazette notice number 1405 by the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u.

The former MP and a veteran auditor has replaced Richard Kiplagat whose appointment to the board was revoked.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 40 (1) (a) and (2) of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Francis Kigo Njenga as a member and chairperson of the Board of Directors of UFAA," the Gazette notice read in sections.

"Kigo will serve for a period of three years with effect from February 10, 2023. The appointment of Richard Kiplagat is revoked," the notice read in part.

Kigo vies for MP seat

The appointment of Kigo, who unsuccessfully vied for the Gatundu North MP's position on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket comes months after politicians from Kiambu County urged President William Ruto to consider him for a worthy position owing to his fierce efforts of backing the Kenya Kwanza administration during the last year's general election.

Kigo, who served in the last regime as County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Finance in Kiambu County, is the latest in the new appointments that Ruto's administration continues to make with only a few months in power.

His appointment adds to several positions that Ruto's government has awarded to residents of Gatundu North.

Josephine Njeri Mburu from Mutuma village in the same constituency was also appointed as Principal Secretary to the State Department for Health Standards and Professional Management.

The constituency also enjoys the nomination of Trizah Wanjiru as an MP.

In his welcome speech, Kigo lauded Ruto for remembering his service to the people of Kenya and vowed to serve diligently.

"I'm so excited and the position is most welcome. I now look forward to serving the people of Kenya diligently and with a lot of dedication," he told K24 Digital on phone.

Locals led by Kimani Gachihi have also acclaimed Ruto's administration for remembering Gatundu North constituents saying the appointments will go a long way in putting the area on the map.

"It's a tick for Ruto's government. We thank him for this any other appointments that he has continued to make which to us mean putting this area on the map and advocating for more developments remembering that the Constituency has been lagging behind in terms of development. We are grateful," said Gachihi who is the former Mang'u Ward MCA.
