Two Kenyan representatives in the just-concluded Miss and Mister Deaf International beauty contest in Moscow, Russia, arrived in the country yesterday to a warm reception by relatives and friends after scooping top awards.
Catherine Ndinda Ngovi, 22, a business management student at Kenya Institute of Management, was the first runners-up while Wilson Obange was the second runners up in their respective categories at the beauty pageantry.
The two had won the Kenyan and Africa competitions of the same. The Kenyan event was held at the Nairobi Film Centre and organised by the Deaf Artistes Cultural Association of Kenya and the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).
Empower
Kemmonye Mamatsits of Botswana emerged top of the international contest held on July 7 to 15, and graced by Miss and Mr Deaf International Inc chief executive Bonita Leek.
The non-profit organisation seeks to empower and support the growing community of deaf women and men.
