The number of ward representatives in Mombasa County who have tested positive for Covid-19 has risen to seven.
The county assembly Speaker Fadhili Makarani on Tuesday said the two-week recess given to the MCAs in wake of the upsurge of Covid-19 cases had been extended to 21 more days.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker had confirmed that only three ward reps had tested positive for coronavirus.

“We consider extending the 14 days to 21 more days due to the increased numbers of Covid-19 in the county to allow the entire building to be fumigated as well as members of the county assembly to self-isolate,” said Makarani.
The Deputy Speaker said that more MCAs were being tested before they could begin contact tracing and quarantine begins.
“The confirmed cases are a few and can easily be managed therefore there is no cause for alarm as the situation is in control and we have put on measures to ensure everyone gets tested,” he said.
Further, the county assembly official said that they are working closely with Kenya Medical Research Institute to ensure that the testing exercise is concluded by Friday, October 30.
"If the test kits will be available, the testing process among all staff will end this week,” said Makarani.
“The county assembly has consulted the Ministry of Health on the availability of the testing kits and how to quarantine those leaders whose results had turned positive,” said Makarani.
