Residents of Mwingi Town in Kitui County are reeling from shock after the body of a middle-aged woman was found mutilated and left in her car on Monday morning.

Mwingi Central Sub-County administrator, Alex Mutemi, said the deceased has been identified as Eunice Kiema, a lecturer at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Mwingi Town.

Mutemi told K24 Digital that Kiema’s eyes were gouged out, her legs charred and her different body parts stabbed.

Kiema’s body was dumped in her car, a Toyota Raum of registration plate KCJ 451B, that was found near Mwingi Market.

The deceased, a native of Mwingi Central, was married to a man who hails from Kyuso in Mwingi North.

Police picked Kiema’s body and took it to a Mwingi Central hospital morgue, said Mutemi.

Mwingi Central Sub-County police commander, Peter Mutuma, told K24 Digital that preliminary investigations show that the killing was premediated, though the reason for it remains unclear.

“It appears that the suspects had even planned to set Kiema’s car alight after killing her. We found a matchbox in the vehicle,” said Mutuma, who vowed to hunt down the don’s killers.

The deceased’s friend, Joe Nyange, described Kiema as a “humble and peaceful woman, who was mostly seen in her mother’s company”.

“Eunice loved peace. How I pray those behind her killing to be arrested and punished,” said Nyange, who recounted a similar incident that occurred at the same scene in late 2018.

“A man was killed in similar fashion in the same area. Police should increase their patrols in Mwingi Market,” he said.

Nyange’ sentiments were echoed by other Mwingi Town residents, including one Ndanu Kimanzi, who urged police bosses in Kitui County to deploy more officers to Mwingi Market.
