The world Athletics inspection team will be in the country next week to asses preparations for the World Under-20 Championships that are meant to be held this year in Nairobi.

The team will be in Nairobi to check how far the country is with renovation work and laying of Tartan at Kasarani Stadium, which will be the venue for the championships which is scheduled to run from July 7-12.

Athletics Kenya (AK) president Jack Tuwei said that the team’s visit will focus on the work done by the local organizing committee one year since their last show, where they met the then Cabinet Secretary for Sports Rashid Echesa and other top government officials.

"A strong delegation from World Athletics is due in Nairobi for inspection. It is a big team of about 25 delegates. They arrive in the county on February 11. They will be here on February 12-15 to meet the organizing committee. We have done so much in preparing for their tour,’’ Tuwei said.

The visit will come barely a week after another delegation comprising of medical officials toured the country.

Kenya won the bid following a largely successful World Under-18 Championships held in 2017 with a record turnout of over 60,000 fans attending.
