The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has authorized the Treasury to release Sh1.4 billion to Nairobi County for payment of current pending bills.

Earlier the EACC had told Treasury to stop the disbursement citing several cases of conflict of interest in tenders.

But in a letter written by EACC chief executive Twalib Mbarak to the Nairobi County Secretary on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said the probe into the tenders may take longer than anticipated.

“In that regard, we are of the view that the County Government can pay the genuine supplies and contractors in line with existing laws and regulations on Public Finance Management,” said Mr. Mbarak.

Further, Mbarak warned the Nairobi County Secretary to exercise due diligence when making payments to contractors and suppliers.

“In the meantime, the Commission will closely monitor pending bills paid by the Nairobi County government and take any action where necessary in accordance with its mandate,” the CEO said.
