Wife, children and grandchildren: Little-known details in Chris Kirubi’s family

Billionaire Chris Kirubi died on Monday aged 81 and has been eulogised by his family as a loving and caring figure.

Although very little is known about his immediate family, his siblings, children, grandchildren and close relations identified as Gina, Mara and Andrew came to the limelight during his requiem mass held on Friday June 18.

The billionaires' wife, Miss Kirubi parted ways with him in 1999 after the two divorced. The woman now leads a low key life away from the public limelight.

Kirubi's first-born daughter is known as Mary Anne Wambui aged 47 years old.

Wambui is a Kenyan businesswoman and entrepreneur who runs her father’s empire and also seats on a number of boards of public and private companies.

The companies include; Sidian Bank, Haco Tiger Brands, UAP Investments Limited, International House Limited, Woof Advertising and marketing, Sheraton in Rongai and Croyden Limited.

Jimmy Kinyani, Kirubi's brother.

After her father's death, Wambui joined Kenya Manufacturers Association as a director.

His son Robert Kirubi works in Belgium and he is the head of Global Customer programs at DHL Services Logistics.

Robert in 2018 turned down an offer by his father when he was asked to come back to Kenya and manage some of his father’s businesses.

During the funeral service, Kirubi's eulogy was read by his siblings Susan Shrita and Jimmy Kinyan.

When the time came for Kirubi's youngest sibling, Dr Michael Gichugi Kirubi to eulogise his brother, Michael's daughter read her fathers message revealing that Kirubi had a special bond with his small brother to appoint of taking up Kirubi's name as his.

Kirubi was also eulogised by his niece Maria Mumbi Kirubi who is a lawyer.

Mumbi told mourners that Kirubi gave her her first job as a journalist at Capital FM before he guided her into studying law.

Another niece to Kirubi is Susan Kirubi, the daughter of Dr Michael Gichugi Kirubi. Susan studied Business Administration before she veered off into International Development.

The founder and owner of HACO industries is also succeeded by a grandson called Christopher Junior who is Robert's son.

While addressing mourners, young Christopher revealed that, unlike his father and grandfather, he had no interest in business or money. The young man has his focus on music a path he said was completely different to that of his father and grandfather.
