Police in Webuye have arrested a 55-year-old man ferrying 550 kilograms of bhang to Eldoret following a tip-off from a member of the public.
Confirming the incident, East Webuye station Chief officer Gloria Ng'etich stated that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 6 am.
Ng'etich warned residents against engaging in such illegal activities while assuring them that they will tighten security across hotspot areas.
The suspect is under police custody awaiting arraignment once investigations are concluded.
NPS give their opinion on bhang
The arrest of the man comes three days after the National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement re-emphasizing the government's stand on bhang.
Bang is and remains illegal in Kenya. And it’s for good reasons that the plant is prohibited. The socioeconomic downside of the herb outweighs the gains. pic.twitter.com/UE9nkEWcIF

NPS underscored the negative effects of bhang on users in the statement shared through their official social media platform,
"Bhang is and remains illegal in Kenya. And it's not for good reasons that the plant is prohibited. The socioeconomic downside of the herb outweighs the gain. That's the more reason NPS is on the offensive of eradicating the cultivation and use of illegal drugs, bhang inclusive, alongside other prohibited drinks. Drug dealers and users, be warned!"
