Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has told local leaders to stop political wrangling and work together for the people.

Wamatangi spoke during the launch of the Kiambu Governor's Sports Championships at the county headquarters, where various teams will compete in different fields at the county level.

“I am pleading with fellow leaders whom we were elected together to focus on serving our people as this is not the time for fights which are giving our county a bad name,” Wamatangi noted.

Recently, the Governor has been at loggerheads with a cross-section of leaders in the county, including Members of Parliament as well as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), over his leadership style.

“If you are an MP, a Senator or an MCA, go out of your way to bring resources to our people. What kind of fools shall we look like if we start fighting each other when all the other counties are busy making better livelihoods for their people?” he posed.

“I want to tell fellow leaders that we are shaming our own family when we rush to public meetings to attack each other,” he added.

During the occasion, where the majority of the MCAs failed to attend, Ndumberi Ward Rep David Chogi assured the Governor that the County Assembly would approve supplementary budgets from the executive despite the prevailing political differences.

Out of the 14 elected members of parliament in the county, only three of them, Simon King'ara (Ruiru), Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North), and Ann Wamuratha (Woman Rep), are said to be on good terms with Wamatangi.

The rest, including Senator Karungo Thang'wa, have had differences with the Governor over various administrative issues, one of which is the appointment of various chief officers in his ministries.

Several MPs who have joined disgruntled MCAs in attacking Wamatangi include Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), John Kiragu (Limuru), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika), George Koimburi (Juja), and Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu).

Wamatangi has advised the leaders to stay in their lanes and allow the regional government to fulfil its mandate without unnecessary distractions.

“You cannot be talking ill of your mother and think that is wisdom. You should not talk evil about your family, Kiambu is like our mother,” he said.
