Police in Uthiru, Kiambu County, have launched investigations after a lady was found dead due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
The deceased, identified as Priscah Demesi, was found lying on her couch with foam coming from her mouth and a jiko with burnt charcoal beside her.
"Police rushed to the scene and found the door locked from inside. They broke and found the deceased lying on the couch with foam coming from her mouth.
"Besides her was a jiko with burnt ashes and cooked meat and ugali," the police report read in part.
Demesi's neighbours discovered that she had not been seen outside on Wednesday, August 24, and her house was locked from the inside.
They became suspicious, peeped through the window, and saw her lying on the couch.
She did not respond to their calls and they decided to call the police.
The body of the deceased was moved to the City Mortuary where an autopsy will be carried out.
Other suspected carbon monoxide deaths
Last month, two deaths from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning were also reported.
In the first incident, a Senior Assistant Director working with the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) was found decomposing on the bed inside his house.
Fredrick Shitambasi Ashimosi, 47, was found inside his house which had been locked from inside.
“The officers gained access to the house by breaking the door. The lifeless body was found lying on the bed,” a police report read in part.
The police found a charcoal jiko beside his bed suspecting that he might have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
In the second incident, the lifeless body of Dennis Njuguna Maina was found lying on the bed in his house in Kahawa West.
The police said a jiko with burned charcoal was found beside him.
“Officers managed to break the window and opened the door. Inside the house, they found the lifeless body of a young man lying on the bed,” police said.
