A 20-year-old woman was on Monday, December 16, arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts over allegations of burning down a residential apartment valued at Ksh40 million.

On December 13, Rose Muinde allegedly started the fire in one of the units in the Nairobi apartment that was rented by her husband.

The court was told that Muinde, a Bachelor of Science (Horticulture) student at Chuka University, set the house alight after her spouse, Kennedy Kimani, tried to stop her from committing suicide.

The suspect, the court heard, had vowed to jump from their fourth-floor rented house after she wrangled with her partner, Kimani.

Muinde locked herself in the house after lighting the fire, but she was rescued by neighbours, the court was told.

The apartment belonging to Peris Kariuki was completely razed down after the inferno raged on.

Muinde was freed on Ksh500, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount after she denied the arson charge.

Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji set April 23, 2020 as the hearing date.
