A youthful teacher from Mwea in Kirinyaga County is fighting for his life in hospital after he was on Wednesday slashed in the head, arms and fingers by a male colleague.

The victim and the suspect -- both teachers at Karoti Girls’ High School -- were eyeing the same woman, an intern on teaching practice, their colleagues alleged.

The rivalry came to a head Wednesday, with the two confronting each other.

The suspect is said to have reached for a panga and hacked his love rival in the head, arms and fingers.

Mwea East OCPD, Daniel Kitavi, said the blood-soaked victim was rushed to a local hospital for urgent treatment, whereas the attacker was arrested.

“We are conducting our investigations to establish what caused the fight. However, the teachers we interrogated at Karoti Girls’ High School said the pair had fallen out after realising they were both interested in the same woman; an intern on teaching practice at the school,” Kitavi told K24 Digital.
